Katherine Nicol

In March we sadly lost one of our directors following a battle with cancer. Katherine joined the bookshop as a director and co-treasurer in 2021, bringing experience from her career as a finance and planning manager.

While Katherine was not a great reader herself, she loved the bookshop, also volunteering in the shop as we reopened when pandemic restrictions eased and enjoying meeting customers and getting a sense of the core business of the shop. Katherine worked with the board to promote the bookshop and increase membership through initiatives such as members’ month and book giveaways which brought new customers to the shop.

Alongside her co-treasurer, Katherine took more responsibility for the bookshop accounts, helping reduce the work done by our accountants and so keep more money to run and develop the bookshop. While it was a more behind the scenes role in the bookshop’s development during this time, Katherine’s commitment to the bookshop over the last 3-4 years played a great part in making it a success. Katherine and her contributions to the bookshop are much appreciated and will be missed.
