Happy Christmas 2021!
We wanted to say a big Happy Christmas to all the bookshop staff, volunteers, members and customers. Beginning in lockdown, 2021 has been another strange year but a big step forward from 2020 and we've been open and trading for much of it. Though we've been supported by government grants through the pandemic and are in a good position financially, we've lost a number of our regular volunteers who have been rightly cautious - hopefully we will build our volunteer base in the next year.
We have big plans for 2022, we have a new storage facility on the High Street so will be freeing up space in the shop and start to catalogue more of the collection for online access. We intend to re-start in person events and we're looking at running another author event for our AGM in March - if you have any suggestions for local authors let us know!
We have submitted a funding bid to resource an artists residency programme in 2022, to use art and creative methods to open up the bookshop to new and more diverse audiences. And we're getting going on some shop refurbishments with a new heating system going in in January which should make a significant improvement to the shop for customers, staff and volunteers.
Happy Christmas and we really look forward to seeing you all in 2022!
